A respit from my journey All Nautical All the time (can't stop the fetish)

Sorry to be out of touch, I know I usually update my blog more often than this but I was in NYC for a month then San Francisco for a month now I'm back in Savannah. One thing I've come to realize is I have really amazing and magical friends everywhere which I am endlessly thankful for, and the other thing I realize is everywhere is just kinda ghetto. That's just the way it is. I had amazing photos of my life I wish to share with you, but a pirate stole my cell phone at a marina in San Francisco during a drunken sea shanty freak out. Oh Fiddle Dee Dee. Much blood sweat and tears has been shed over prates, but no longer. Now only Gentleman sailors Mermen and Mermaids allowed in this port.

MERMAIDS!

I love Weeki-Wachee Florida. I visited a decade ago but plan to go again as soon as my flippers can flop me there. Here is a documentary about real life Mermaids who are even more bananas than I am about living the life aquatic. Thanks Vincent for sending in this fun documentary.

HEY AND IF YOU WANT TO LIVE ON A SHIP NOW YOUR SHIP HAS COME IN!

Contact Josh to live there in exchange for 25 hours of upkeep a week !!!!!! Thanks Delfino for the tip! josh-fkhxyqmw@on.listingsproject.com

I HAD A DREAM THAT WAS A POEM
It also had an illustration of child in a shipwreck , that on closer inspection was a wooden bow spirit of a cupid. Laying with it's wooden cracking skin on a bed of sea weed.

The ship did wreck, but mercy was mild.
Among debris lay a sleeping child.
And as he lay himself to rest.
He made himself an angels nest.

This was in reaction to a pirate I knew and loved leaving his treasure behind and telling me to search for a diamond ring through it which I did not find. But instead found celestial maps navigational charts and sailing instructional books, brackish barnicales and repulsive palmetto bugs, pirate flags smelling of rotting seaweed, molded photos and money from long ago times and far away places. Fair winds to all of you who love the sea. And also to the landlubbers who dream to live the dream.

Happy Summer Solstice/DD Bday/Mermaid Tarot

Good Morning My Summer Honeys! Happy June 19th :)

The Mermaid Tarot Decks are back in print! Hooray, get em while they're hot!

Dame Darcy, Mermaid Tarot Decks

Today is my birthday, I am a cusp. A Gemini who's other twin is a Cancer. This water/air combo makes for an interesting life, never a dull moment logistically talking myself out of being emotional. The up side is my top half is a faeiry the bottom half is a mermaid. Good times!

Happy Birthday to my twin friends and all others born on this day :)

Christy Kane, http://www.christykane.com/ (Doll Crafter extraordinaire), Tomas Palermo (my first love), my friend Charity, Doll daughter/granny Isabelle Espiore celebrates her 88th birthday today and last but not least the Marquis de Sade. They Kinda have a lot in common, besides both being French. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquis_de_Sade

The Tarot card representing this day is The Sun.

In honor of the Summer Solstice I made this new hand painted faeiry print.

Summer Solstice Print

Dame Darcy, Summer Solstice, Fae, Fairy, Hand painted, glitter, watercolor, illustration, print

The summer solstice is the first day of summer, it is an exciting time for life and the fun times ahead in the warm weather.

In the southern tip of South America, the Mapuche people celebrate We Tripantu (the New Year) a few days after the northern solstice, on June 24. Further north, the Atacama people formerly celebrated this date with a noise festival, to call the Sun back. Further east, the Aymara people celebrate their New Year on June 21. A celebration occurs at sunrise, when the sun shines directly through the Gate of the Sun in Tiwanaku. Other Aymara New Year feasts occur throughout Bolivia, including at the site of El Fuerte de Samaipata.

In many cultures, the solstices and equinoxes traditionally determine the midpoint of the seasons, which can be seen in the celebrations called midsummer and midwinter. In this vein, the Japanese celebrate the start of each season with an occurrence known as Setsubun. The cumulative cooling and warming that result from the tilt of the planet become most pronounced after the solstices, leading to the more recent custom of using them to mark the beginning of summer and winter in most countries of Central and Northern Europe, as well as in Canada, the USA and New Zealand.

While sailing, we found and reused all the elements of this ecological jug painted with mermaids and decorated with recycled fish nets, casting ropes, shells found on different islands from the inner coastal water way of the south.

Hot Witch Debbie Harry

When I was 13 I saw Debbie Harry sing on Solid Gold, she gave me hope that there was a place for me in this world. She was a frontier front woman for style and music in 80's and beyond! I love the way Blondie blends 70's disco with 80's punk. Its still a classic sound. My favorite song (to cover as a mermaid at Naughty nautical Nite, and also Karaoke fun) is Tide is High. As a tribute to Debbie's glory please enjoy the following portraits, inspired by PUNK magazine circa 1979 :)

Here's a little about Beltane and Cinco de Mayo

Beltane is the Fire and Fertility festival in which we welcome summer. Celebrated by Celts, from sun down to sun down; Beltane being at sun down on April 30th until sun down on May 1st. The word Tane comes from the Welsh word meaning fire and Bel is the name of the Welsh sky god. Combined the words mean fire in the sky creating a wonderfully appropriate name to invoke summer. Traditionally two babies, one of each sex, were selected annually to be trained to become the Stag Lord and the May Queen. Their time came at the age of 14 and the boy ran with a herd of deer. At some point the dom buck, or great stag, would sense the intruder and it was up to the Stag Lord to overcome him. If he returning victorious and undamaged, he then mated with the May Queen as symbolic conformation.

The Beltane fires burned throughout the entire celebration to signal the suns strength returning. Live stock was driven between two bonfires during the festival to protect from disease in the coming year. The frail and sick also did this to obtain sun's healing power.

Beltane is a day to look back on our ancestors and give thanks to the lord and lady.

Cinco de Mayo is the day that Mexico celebrates victory over the French.

New Spring Beginnings/Illustration sale/Gasoline/ Go, Go Elizabeth!!

Hello My Dears,

Ostara (Easter) is a wonderful time for new beginnings. :)

I did a spring ritual and then afterwards when I turned on the radio I heard about an amazing play starring the woman who designed the dresses for Lincoln's wife, Elizabeth Keckley.  After researching her, I realized how extraordinary she was to women's history. Elizabeth was able to write a first person account as a black woman in her time. She sacrificed so much in order to publish that book, but it was worth it for us all to know life from her perspective.

May the Goddess Bless you, Elizabeth. You are not forgotten.

Hot Witch of the Week Elizabeth Keckley

She is a shining example of someone who beat fantastic odds, did the most she could with what she had, and did it with style. (literally!) She became a fashion designer for Lincolns wife while also doing everything she could to help newly freed people find financial stability and homes in a new life. She taught classes teaching other women how to sew and create a skill for themselves in which to make money. Plus she helped wounded soldiers and founded relief funds. And check out her adorable bow in her hair she wore all the while!

Elizabeth was born a slave, her father's identity only revealed to her on her mothers death bed, as her mothers white master. As a child and she was illegally taught to write and read...a skill she used to great advantage later in life when she wrote a tell all biography about life in the white house. Enitiled "30 years a Slave and 4 Years in the White House" "1868. That has to be the most amazing book title ever in the history of the universe! Lay it down like it is Elizabeth! She was so amazingly contemporary, this is the kind of book that would have come out in 1968 but she did it a century earlier!  This is a MUST READ.

I'm going to go get it now! I hear it was very controversial and revealing of Mary Todd Lincolns close friendship with Elizabeth. Keckley had moved to Washington in 1860 after buying her freedom and that of her son in St. Louis. She created an independent business in the capital based on clients who were the wives of the government elite. Among them were Varina Davis, wife of Jefferson Davis; and Mary Anna Custis Lee, wife of Robert E. Lee.Her claim as a businesswoman and part of the new mixed-race, educated middle-class that were visible among the leadership of the black community.

Elizabeth did centuries of good for people of all walks of life during her life time. I hear there is a Play currently running in D.C. about her and Mary entitled Mary T. & Lizzy K., the world-premiere show now playing at Arena. Those in the area go for me please. This has got to be amazing.

Witch Movie Reviews, Witch Dolls, Victrolla film, and Faery Furniture

Hi All :)

I just saw two witch movies, Oz the great and Powerful and Hansel And Grethel: Witch Hunters. Thumbs up five stars for OZ. Thumbs down 2 stars for Witch Hunters.  Inspired me to create profiles for these porcelain witch dolls.

 Dollfamily

Lemony, Batty and Big Mama

In OZ I liked the main character who is a lovable handsome con man Played by the actor James Franco who I hear is also a professor in real life. Oh la la brains and looks! They spent a little too much time in Black and White mundane land for my tastes, but I liked the singing saw. I also missed Dorothy who I adore from the L. Frank Baum book series from the early 1900's I read as a girl.

I guess this movie takes place before Dorothy was born. Anyways, The aesthetics and effects in this movie are candy colored adorable whimsy and action packed, the witches are portrayed as various kinds of good and evil but they are all beautiful, magical and lovable in their own way, and there is the cutest little talking porcelain doll in this movie that lives in a tea pot land and is kinda borderline personality but is extremely cute so it's ok. I spent the whole movie worrying about that little doll breaking, so that was distracting, but overall family fun.

The only thing I liked about Witch Hunters is the candy house which was cool because it had its own teeth stuck into a swirling lollypop door. Otherwise, you know those movies where they take all male attributes and put females in the roles instead so its just another jock action movie but with girls?

That's how I see this movie. I liked the hideousness of many of the witches, but I like pretty witches more, and witches being portrayed as beautiful. Which most of the witches in this were not so I find that to be boring. In Russia this is apparently one of the top grossing box office hits of all time, so I couldn't help but think about that and them speaking Russian the whole time I watched it. Oh I have shoes like all the witches in this movie too, that's another good thing about it and the fashion in general is why this movie gets stars at all.
