OK, everyone, you may be wondering who Sean Hennessey is. Well here’s a tale of intrigue and drama who’s ending is rather mysterious and vague. Enough time has passed that perhaps he will be thrilled to contact me again and maybe not be mad I am doing a blog about him, but also he probably doesn’t even use computers still so maybe he won’t even see this. Anyway...
In 1999 I had a patron of the arts named Sean Hennessey. His first contact with me was when he sent me a fan letter to my NY po box (this was before everyone used email and I would get massive amounts of fan mail a week) containing $1000 in 20 dollar bills from Calcutta (I know I spelled it wrong).
He was a bon vivant of the foppish Edwardian variety and lived in the upper east side. He comissioned 3 paintings from me for $7000. each and also had me paint absenthe faeries in his study for and additional $7000. Also, he funded the Meat Cake Play which toured in 6 locations on the east coast in spring of 2000.(I now have a DVD distribution deal for this if any of you want to see it, you can get it in the products section of Dame Darcy.com) He gave me $5000 to produce that. Well if you are thinking anything sordid I can assure you I am not a ho and also, he was (and still is?) married and I am a feminist and I don’t go there.
Anyway, it is surely enough that I am divulging this to the public at all let alone the details of the way it all ended. Anyway, for over a year we had a lovley time taking high tea in the fancy places in the upper east side of Manhattan. He even offered to buy me a car but I didn’t do it because I thought I could ask him later to invest in my feature film.
Sean, I wanted to remain your friend. Not just because you patronized my art but because we were kindred Victorian spirits. Anyway, it doesn’t matter now, at the last show of Meat Cake the play in NY a stranger gave me a single red rose. He said it was from Sean, and that he had seen the play and had very much enjoyed it. But that he had to go and wanted to give me the flower. I never heard from him again after that.
So there it is. That’s the story of my patron. Why am I putting this in somthing so base as a blog? Why am I divulging information that I never do?
Because after long thought on the topic I decided that I wanted my patron back. And that I know he hates computers but I thought if anyone out there knows him they could relay this message to him. Or if anyone is interested in being my patron I am happy to take comissions. Please put "ART PATRON" in the subject line so we can identify you. Or if you are Sean please put "Hello from Sean Hennessey".
If you want to be my art patron I promice I won’t blog about you, blogging about ones patron is vulgar and unprofessional . But in Sean’s case I just don’t know any other way to find him because I know he spends a lot of time in Morocco and Egypt etc.
I also am not naive and I am well aware I am opening myself up to someone posing as Sean, but I just don’t care at this point. And also, I allready thought about this so do even bother pretending to be someone you are not if this was your rediculous plan for a prank.
You see, I have a painting studio again now in Brooklyn and can accomodate, also it was so wonderful to have a patron. So if anyone can direct Sean to me it would be lovley and maybe we can be friends again. Or also I know multimillionaire patrons to comission paintings don’t grow on trees, but I would like to do comissions again and will work within a budget. I am also preparing for gallery shows in NY and LA that will exhibit in the fall for the release of my new graphic novel Gasoline to be published by Merrell books.
So I will have new works to veiw and purchase at a studio.
In general, I thought it couldn’t hurt to just put it out there, because what do I have to loose? Also, if you want somthing from the universe you have to ask.
And too...my dear reader, did you know that there was more American government funding for the arts during the Great Depression of the 1930’s then there is today. I am so tired or living with this injustice and why after proving myself over and over again to be hardworking and talented do I even have to put up with this!?!
Thanks for all your support everyone, and much love and good will to you.
Sincerely,
Dame Darcy
